The Himalayas were formed when the Indian subcontinent collided with the Eurasian continent. Himalayan quartz crystals were born from the intense tectonic activity created by this collision.

Quartz crystals that form in cracks in the earth, known as veins, are often found in small pockets, so large quantities are rarely discovered at once. Himalayan quartz is known for its remarkable variety of shapes. Crystals from different veins often grow in different forms, which is why such diverse and unique specimens are found in this region.

In addition to highly transparent quartz, garden quartz containing chlorite and pink quartz colored by iron oxide have also been discovered. Rare formations such as vortex-like clusters can also occur.

Major Localities of Himalayan Quartz

The Ganesh Himal region, including nearby areas, is one of the main sources of Himalayan quartz. Important localities include Tipling and Lapa in Nepal, and Manikaran and Manihar in India’s Parvati Valley. Among them, Manihar is a major source, and many Himalayan quartz crystals originate from there.

Fuchsite - クロム雲母
フックサイトはルビー・イン・フックサイトが有名ですが、アクアマリンと共生しているモスコバイトのような雲母グループの一種で緑色のものを言います。和名で「クロム雲母」と呼ばれるように、クロムを内包した雲母のことです。ちなみにベリルがクロムを内包するとエメラルドになります。

もともと雲母はキラキラとした鱗片状のものを指し、グリーンアベンチュリンのアベンチュリンレッセンスも雲母の結晶によるものです。フックサイトもクローライトと比べると明るいミントグリーンで発色がよかったり、ファントムの粒状が大きいのも、雲母の影響かもしれません。

また、ファントムクォーツになるのが特徴で、明るい緑色の水晶は珍しく、中国での需要が特に高い水晶です。

フックサイトと同じ雲母グループで緑色の鉱物がセラドナイト。フックサイトの発色原因はクロムで、セラドナイトは鉄由来なのですが、よく似ているので専門家でも判別が難しいそうです。主な産地はマダガスカルで、マダガスカル産のグリーンクォーツはフックサイトであることが多いようです。
