The Himalayas were formed when the Indian subcontinent collided with the Eurasian continent. Himalayan quartz crystals were born from the intense tectonic activity created by this collision.

Quartz crystals that form in cracks in the earth, known as veins, are often found in small pockets, so large quantities are rarely discovered at once. Himalayan quartz is known for its remarkable variety of shapes. Crystals from different veins often grow in different forms, which is why such diverse and unique specimens are found in this region.

In addition to highly transparent quartz, garden quartz containing chlorite and pink quartz colored by iron oxide have also been discovered. Rare formations such as vortex-like clusters can also occur.

Major Localities of Himalayan Quartz

The Ganesh Himal region, including nearby areas, is one of the main sources of Himalayan quartz. Important localities include Tipling and Lapa in Nepal, and Manikaran and Manihar in India’s Parvati Valley. Among them, Manihar is a major source, and many Himalayan quartz crystals originate from there.

テッシンハビット（Tessin Habit/Transitional Habit）と呼ばれる、平らな柱面を持ちながら、先端が先細っている水晶です。

とんがり帽子のように、先端に行くにつれ細くなり、尖った山のような外観に。レーザークォーツと違うのは、レーザークォーツが均等に細長い胴体を持つのに対して、柱面のある胴体はどっしりと太く、先端の細さに対して根本の丸みや太さが対照的な所です。先端に向かって段階的に細くなる過程で、カテドラルのようになるものもあります。

アルプス産が有名ですが、同じアルプスーヒマラヤ造山帯のネパールでも、テッシンハビット水晶が採れるようです。
